The key to water damage restoration is time. The sooner recovery efforts begin, the easier the damage will be to mitigate.

Terminology – Classes of Water Damage

Class 1: This is the lowest possible level of damage. It implies that only part of a room has been affected, with little to no wet carpeting. At this level the only water damage is to material with a low permeance rate, such as concrete. Class 1 water damage usually has a slow evaporation rate.

Class 2: This level of water damage usually affects an entire space, such as a room or office. It includes carpeting, and cushions, and the water will have moved up the wall at least 12”. There will generally be moisture permeating the structural materials.

Class 3: At this level, all surfaces, including ceilings, walls, carpets and sub-floors have been affected including the insulation. Class 3 water damage usually has the fast evaporation rate. Overhead flooding, such as on the floor above the space is generally considered Class 3.

Class 4: This level of damage is reserved for materials with low permeance; such as plywood, brick or stone, that has been in liquid long enough to become saturated.
